Isolated - James & Pendlebury 2020

 

Waz enters his second year of its collaboration with Andrew Pendlebury who has now settled right into the band. They have been working on a new album "Isolated 2020". Covid has seen Melbourne in lock down for the last 4 Months with Waz using the time to get stuck into writing some new songs. What started as a project for the band while in the lockdown with Waz sending demo tracks to Andrew and the rest of the band by phone and the guys sending tracks recorded on smart phone back soon become serious with the songs coming up much better than they thought possible.

 

With the lock down lifted briefly in June the guys were able to come into the Reo Grande (Waz home studio) and lay the tracks down although, many of the original phone recordings have made it to the record.

The 11 track offering is currently being mixed by Waz's Nephew Zach Zuluaga with help from Glenn Santry and John Philips. Sample the Track "Hard Times" for a taste of whats to become.

Waz E James is often referred to as ‘Australia’s best kept secret’. He is a songwriter and regular performer at many of Australia’s largest festivals, and has performed legendary shows at the Tamworth Music Festival for more than 15 years straight. The last few years he has added the Cairns Tablelands Music Festival and Airlie Beach Music Festival to the band’s regular festival list. He is currently performing with Andrew Pendlebury, Steve Hadley and Scotty Martin

Andrew Scott Pendlebury (born 1952) is an Australian guitarist-songwriter. From 1977 to 1981 was a member of The Sports (with Stephen Cummings) and from 1986 to 1988 he joined Slaughtermen (with Ian Stephen). He has undertaken other projects and issued four solo albums. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1993, Pendlebury's solo work, Don't Hold Back That Feeling, won Best Adult Contemporary Album. In 1999 Australian rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, described Pendlebury as having "pursued a career that garnered him much critical acclaim, but little in the way of mainstream success. Although occasionally compared with Tommy Emmanuel, Pendlebury has preferred to follow a more low-key, highly specialised path away from the limelight". From 2003 he has been a member of The Mercurials. He has worked on and off with Waz e James since 2003 and has joined the WEJB full time in 2019.

Stephen Hadley is an Australian musician. Hadley was a member of The Black Sorrows from 1991 to 1993 appearing on the album Better Times (1993).[1] In the mid 90s he joined Paul Kelly's Band[2] and later Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. In 1998 he was part of the Singers For The Red Black & Gold who released a cover of "Yil Lull" which was nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Indigenous Release. Along with Paul Kelly, Shane O'Mara and fellow members of Professor Ratbaggy he provided the soundtrack to Lantana. This earnt him an ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack Album in 2002. Hadley has also had stints in Joe Creighton Band, Vince Jones Band, Kate Ceberano and The Ministry Of Fun, Christine Anu Band, Men at Workand the Colin Hay Band.

Peter 'Pete' David Fidler[1] is a dobro player from Melbourne, Australia. He also plays mandolin, lap steel guitar and guitar.

Before playing the dobro, Fidler was guitarist/songwriter in Melbourne-based psychedelic rock band, Tyrnaround. Tyrnaround were formed in 1985 and active until the death of their singer, Michael Philips, in 1999. Fidler wrote one of their best known songs "Colour Your Mind" which was released in 1986.[1]

It was the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? that inspired Fidler to pick up the dobro when he was in his 30s.[2] Fidler released a solo album in 2008, Slide Night, the first Australian dobro album ever recorded.[3] The album was featured on the ABC Radio show 'The Daily Planet', hosted by Lucky Oceans in May 2008.[2] Fidler currently plays with Australian bluegrass band, Bluestone Junction, and has produced their last two CD releases.

Fidler also plays with several other artists, most notably Australian guitar virtuoso Nick Charles, singer-songwriter Bill Jackson (with whom he toured the United States in 2008 and 2010, where they appeared at the International Folk Alliance Convention in Memphis) and Melbourne country-rock singer-songwriter Waz E James.

 

Scotty Martin Originally from Adelaide he moved to Melbourne in 1981 to join the Giants, Scotty soon found himself drumming for the “Strangeloves” through to 1985.  In ’86 joined Melbourne Ska Band “No Nonsense” until they disbanded 18 months later. Scotty joined Steve Hoys Lost Millions 1990 which featured Ross Hannaford on guitar and playing on Steve’s album “Self Defence” which was recorded at this time. He continues to play in Steve’s current band. He Also worked with artists such as “Ross Wilson”, “Brent Parlane”,  “Mick Hamilton”, “Greg Champion”, “Hillbilly Moon”,” Howlin’ Time”, “Jim Keays band”,  “Lindsay Hammond”, “Red Rivers”, “Crawfish Dave” &” Cyndi Boste”. He joined the Rockin’ Blues outfit “the Lowriders” in the 2000s. In more recent years have worked with “Matt Dwyer”, “the Beatriders”, “Rockbottom James & Quadrajet”,” Hurricane Hearne”, “Mick Pealing Band”, Kerryn Tolhurst’s “Holy Mackerel Band”, “John Power Blues Band” & now “Waz E James Band”.

 

Dom T Mostro (Domenico Tarraborelli) – Dom T is a Brisbane based piano accordion player, he is a master of the keyboards, having studied Accordion & Piano since the age of 4. In recent years his band the “Latin Mafia” have toured extensively oversea’s.  He also added his accordion prowess to the Celtic band Murphys Pigs representing Australia at the French Biennale. Dom has been joining Waz e James on tour as often as possible for the last 5 years since meeting and joining the band on stage at the Tamworth Music Festival.

 

Waz E James is an Alt Country/Americana songwriter with an International profile. With Andrew Pendlebury (Sports) and Steve Hadley (Black Sorrows) the band is regularly compared to Marshal Tucker Band, Alman Brothers & Lynard Skynard Etc.  This band is on the must see list for festival goers at Tamworth FMF, Cairns Tabelands or Airle Beach Festival.
